Quick Tips

- Start by making a FAFSA ID for one parent and one student

      -- The IRS Data retrieval tool will work the best if the parent who appears first on

              the tax documents is the one who creates a FAFSA ID

      -- Do not use your K12 email. Use an email you can always access. 

      *** Save this information - you will need it every year and possibly beyond! 

                 - Click here for a handy data saving information sheet

- Have your tax documents with you as you fill out the FAFSA and use exact match information

      -- Examples:  If your taxes say "Avenue" so should your FASFA rather than "Ave."

                            - Joseph vs. Joe

                            - PO vs. Street Address

- Pay close attention to what qualifies as an ASSET 

      -- Not an Asset: Retirement Funds, Farming Land, House, Cars, 

- Make sure you push SUBMIT :) 

- Special Circumstances -- A lot can change in the 2 years between the taxes submitted for FAFSA versus the year of going to college. Talk to you school. They can help you! 

      -- i.e.  Divorces, Medical Issues, Death, Homelessness, Loss of Employment. 

- Check your email regularly for information from FAFSA and/or colleges.
